Joggin' thru Joshua

Good Morning, Dear Friends and Prayer Partners! This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! This is another day without much needed rain, but we still depend on God's timing to bring what we need. Because I did not water them, my amaryllis have all died, and I don't know if the bulbs have dried up or not. Shame on me for not watering!

We heard a powerful sermon yesterday from the president of the Alaska Christian College, and afterwards, I drove to the Park before going home. As I was marveling at the light and shadows, and the crowd of people milling around, all out to enjoy nature's beauty, Louis Armstrong's voice came over the radio singing, "What a wonderful world." Perfect!!

It was a nice, quiet weekend with a lot of reading accomplished and some tasks around the house..more closet cleaning and not much else, but God is good!

From the Promise Bible NLT:  (the theme of our sermon yesterday).

Joshua 1:3-9
I promise you what I promised Moses: Everywhere you go, you will be on land I have given you--from the Negev desert in the south to the Lebanon mountains in the north, from the Euphrates River on the east  to the Mediterranean Sea on the west and all the land of the Hittites. No one will be able to stand their ground against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.

Be strong and courageous, for you will lead my people to possess all the land I swore to give their ancestors. Be strong and very courageous Obey all the laws Moses gave you. Do not turn away from them and you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed. I command you--be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

I always give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers with thanksgiving, joy and love!

Love and hugs,
Amaryllis

End of the Age

[Slide 1]

[Slide 2]   Dar star det skrivet? ¿Dónde está escrito? Where is it written?

My devotion this evening is about the urgency we have as believers in Christ for sharing the Good News to others in our daily lives and through our efforts in Respond 2012.

The most profound and life changing words that have ever been spoken are the words of Jesus.  Jesus is loving but is also very bold in speaking the Truth.

Hear the words of Jesus from Matthew, chapter 24:

[Slide 3] Matt 24:4-8, 10-14

4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.”

10 “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

Matt 24:26, 27, 29

26 "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”

29 "Immediately after the distress of those days”

"'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’”

Matt 24:30-31

30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

Matt 24:36-44

36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.”

42 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

And now hear the words of Jesus from  Matthew, chapter 28:

[Slide 4 ] Matt 28:17-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

[At this point in time, I sit down, and the lights are dimmed]

[Cue the video after the lights are dimmed ]  “Are You Ready”  duration:  55 seconds

[Turn the lights back on and I will return to the platform to close in prayer]

[Slide 6] Each day brings us one day closer to the end of this Age and the dawn of Eternity.  Either through physical death or through Jesus’ Final Call, everyone will be heralded into an Eternity of life in Christ or an Eternity of separation and damnation.

Mike Meidel recently shared in an email “Remember to keep the eternal perspective.  This life is only a breath -- the next life goes on forever.  Jesus suffered so much so that we could enjoy eternity with Him and with all those who trust Him with their lives.”

Dear God, we pray in the Name of Jesus that the eyes of our hearts would be open to the very Words that you spoke in your precious Word, the Holy Bible.  We are confronted with your admonitions and at the same time we are drawn by your Words to share the Good News to a lost world.  We pray that we would live each day in light of Eternity – that we would strive to make our actions and interactions directed to lovingly sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.  It is easier said than done – that is why we are depending on You - through Your Word and Your Holy Spirit to lead us.   In Jesus name we pray, with thanksgiving.  Amen.
